Nuclear Engineering Graduate Program

Department of Mechanical Engineering

The Ohio State University

The Ohio State University is seeking applications for three tenured or tenure track positions.  The first position is for an experienced, dynamic individual with proven administrative skills for the position of Chairperson of the Nuclear Engineering Graduate Program.  The nuclear engineering program also seeks faculty members at junior and senior levels, including current students expecting their PhD within the next academic year and looking for an entry level faculty position.  We seek expertise in one or more of the following areas: nuclear power plant instrumentation and control systems, safety/risk assessment, advanced materials, and fuel cycle development.

Applicants should hold or expect an earned doctoral degree in Nuclear Engineering or a closely allied field, such as Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Engineering.  Successful candidates at the senior level will be expected to have commensurate records of active sponsored research programs and demonstrated leadership capabilities.  Junior level candidates will be expected to develop and sustain active sponsored research programs and to become recognized leaders in their research fields.  Candidates are expected to have the ability to teach graduate level nuclear engineering courses as well as lower level courses of broader interest.

The Nuclear Engineering Graduate Program is an academically autonomous program within the Department of Mechanical Engineering offering MS and PhD degrees in nuclear engineering and an undergraduate minor in nuclear engineering.  Among the resources available to the program is a 0.5 MW research reactor.

The Ohio State University is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer.  Women, minorities, and people with disabilities are encouraged to apply.  Columbus is a thriving metropolitan community, and the University is responsive to the needs of dual career couples.
